This course is aimed at those who already have a basic understanding of how their camera works and may have already completed the Fundamentals of Photography course, or just feel that they would like to take their photography a step further.
Structure of the day:
10-10.30am
Introduction to the day, starting in the studio. We’ll establish everyone’s different level of experience, and discuss what we’re going to learn from the day.
10.30-12.30pm
We’ll have a two hour classroom session with a break in the middle, recapping on the core camera controls (aperture, shutter speed, iso), and will also be discussing other aspects of photography including lens choice, exposure bracketing, elements of composition and creative use of light. We’ll look at photos that have been taken using different techniques and talk about how they were achieved. This session will be pitched according to everyone’s experience – we want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the concepts we’re discussing so will go at a sensible pace. We’ll break for coffee and biscuits half way through the session.
12.30-1pm
Lunch break. A light lunch will be provided.
1pm-2.30pm
Practical session outside. We’ll have a brief group session, then everyone will be encouraged to work on their own with guidance from their tutor.
2.30-4pm
We’ll head back to the studio to download some of the photos we’ve taken and put them on the big screen to talk about them. We’ll constructively criticise what makes some pictures work, and what might be done to improve others.
4-4.30pm
Finish up with tea/coffee & discuss what we’ve learnt during the day.
As with the Fundamentals of Photography course, this will be an informal, friendly day with the emphasis being on going at a comfortable pace to make sure that no-one gets left behind. You should come away feeling that you’ve consolidated your knowledge of photography, and have a clear idea of areas to work on to improve your skills further.
